Jack Langley - Ashton Gate Stadium - Deputy Head Groundsperson

Jack Langley is the Deputy Head Groundsperson at Ashton Gate Stadium and co-chair of the GMA NextGen group. Since starting his career with no prior experience, Jack has worked his way up to managing dual-sport playing surfaces. He is committed to creating opportunities for young professionals and driving positive change in the grounds management industry.

At Ashton Gate Stadium, Jack plays a pivotal role in overseeing day-to-day operations across the venue’s sports surfaces. He has gained a reputation for problem-solving and implementing practical solutions, all whilst maintaining high-quality playing surfaces. His technical expertise is complemented by a collaborative approach, ensuring his team can perform at their best while delivering safe and visually appealing pitches for both football and rugby.

Beyond his core role, Jack has contributed extensively to the wider industry through his involvement with GMA NextGen. He has championed initiatives such as the ‘Schools Into Stadia’ programme, which introduces local young people to careers in grounds management, highlighting the opportunities and skills required. He has also engaged with media outlets to promote the profession, shining a spotlight on the expertise that groundspeople bring to sport.

Jack’s career achievements include progressing from entry-level roles to Deputy Head Groundsperson, building expertise through hands-on experience, and actively supporting the development of younger colleagues. One of his key challenges has been gaining the initial opportunity to enter the profession - a challenge he now works to address by mentoring and opening doors for future generations.

Looking to the future, Jack aims to leave a lasting legacy within GMA NextGen by expanding its reach and impact. His idea to launch a NextGen Network to connect young professionals across the industry, providing a platform to share knowledge, exchange ideas and support career development, has now taken off and he hopes it will become a big success within the grounds management industry.

Jack is a passionate and hardworking individual with a real passion for the industry. He is a great role model for the next generation of turf managers. I have worked closely with Jack for the last couple of years and I'm always impressed by his enthusiasm, energy, and his thirst for knowledge and thinking outside the box regarding current industry-related problems. I am proud to work with Jack and I am excited to watch his journey in the future."
