About Us

Sidmouth Cricket, Tennis and Croquet Club is an iconic amateur sports club based in East Devon, providing first-class playing surfaces and facilities to the local community. With our stunning coastal setting and reputation for excellence, we pride ourselves on maintaining some of the best amateur sports grounds in the country. We are now seeking an experienced, passionate and motivated Head Groundsman to lead the maintenance and development of all our Cricket, Tennis and croquet facilities.

Head Groundsman Role & Duties


The main duties and responsibilities will include (although this list is not exhaustive):
• Preparing and maintaining cricket squares, outfields, practice nets and match pitches
• Maintaining croquet lawns to tournament standard
• Maintaining the Club’s grass tennis court and supporting hard court care
• Planning seasonal works including pre-season preparation and end-of-season renovations
• Producing pitch plans in line with fixture schedules
• Operating, maintaining and servicing grounds machinery and equipment
• Applying fertilisers, irrigation, pest and disease control treatments safely
• Managing equipment, consumables and budgets
• Supervising assistant staff, contractors and volunteers
• Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety regulations
• Attending representative fixtures and supporting Club events


The Person
The ideal candidate will:
• Have significant experience in sports turf or grounds management
• Take pride in producing high quality playing surfaces
• Be organised, self-motivated and reliable
• Be confident leading others and working with volunteers
• Have excellent communication skills
• Be practical, hands-on and able to work independently
• Be flexible with seasonal and matchday requirements
Qualifications in Sports Turf Management and pesticide application are desirable.

The Package

This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible
Full Time Contract: 40hrs per week (Longer Hours in the Summer & Shorter in the Winter)
Remuneration: Salary will be tailored to the candidate's level of experience
Where appropriate, a relocation package will be made available and will be tailored to support the successful candidate
move to the area.
All payments will be made through the Club payroll with PAYE and NI being deducted at source.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role you must comply with the following criteria;
• Be eligible to work here in the UK and have any necessary work permit or visa in place
• Full Clean UK Driving License
