David took over the role of Independent Chairman in 2019, prior to which he was an Independent Director on the GMA board. He is a Director of TrioPlus, a market leading niche consultancy providing innovative solutions to organisations involved in sport, physical activity, leisure and culture. He has extensive knowledge of project and programme start ups, funding networks and working at Government level with politicians and advisors.

David also delivers Grant Funding and Corporate Governance Workshops on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and is a visiting lecturer at CASS Business School, City University, London.

Previously David was Director of the Lottery Sports Fund for eight years from 1994 - 2002, where he took responsibility for the establishment and operation of the National Lottery Community Sports Fund, and the ‘World Class’ elite performance programmes.

A graduate of the University of Bath, David started his career in the private sector with Marks and Spencer plc and then spent more than 20 years working in the public sector. Part of his portfolio was developing the very successful ‘Recreation Management’ exhibition over a period of 10 years, at the time the primary event in the sport and leisure calendar.
