SUFFOLK groundsmen were treated to some expert advice at an end-of-season renovation workshop.
The Groundsman’s Evening was organised by Suffolk FA in association with Ipswich Town FC and hosted by Ipswich Wanderers FC at their Humber Doucy Lane ground on Monday evening.
Danny White, who is regional pitch advisor (East) with the Grounds Management Association, led a presentation in the clubhouse, before those attending went outside and split into two groups to see practical demonstrations.
Topics covered included aeration, seeding, irrigation, top dressing, mowing and weeds, pests and diseases.
Assisting Danny were Ben Connell, head groundsman at Ipswich Town FC, Mark Keysell, technical services representative with Rigby Taylor, and Jeremy Vincent, area manager of Charterhouse.
Ben Connell said: “The demonstration of pitch renovation using seeding, top dressing and aeration showed the importance of why it needs to be done every year to maintain a good playing surface.
“It was good to see some old and new faces turn up and take valuable information back to their clubs.”
Suffolk FA Football development manager Nathan French, who organised the event, said: “This was the third workshop we’ve held for groundsmen and this was the first workshop which has offered practical demonstrations on grounds equipment.
“I would like to thank Mark (Rigby Taylor), Jeremy (Charterhouse), Danny (GMA) and Ben (ITFC) for leading the workshop and providing delegates with their expertise and knowledge.
“If anyone would like to know more about the FA Pitch Improvement Programme, please feel free to contact me. We will also be holding another workshop sometime towards the start of next season, so please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for more information.”
