Assistant Groundsperson

Witham Hall School is a happy and thriving co-educational boarding and day Prep School, set within superb grounds on the Lincolnshire/Rutland border. 

Candidate profile:
The Assistant Groundsperson will assist and on occasions deputise for the Head Groundsman in the maintenance of top level boarding school grounds and sports facilities. This position is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and passionate individual to work in a highly progressive school and in a department committed to the very best standards of performance. The Assistant Groundsperson will, with the support of the Head Groundsman, play a prominent role in strengthening this reputation. Therefore, professionalism, flexibility, and a willingness to develop communicative, respectful and supportive relationships are all vital qualities. 

Essential requirements:

  • Experience working in grounds in some form (e.g. sports, estates, gardens etc.).  
  • Dedication to sports and outdoor pursuits and a keen eye for high standards in this regard.  
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repairs (and willingness to train further where required).  

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience working in specific sports facilities.  
  • Qualifications in cognate skills (e.g. spraying, tractor-driving etc.); training can be given otherwise.  
  • Arboricultural knowledge.

Permanent, Full time

Average of 40 hours per week (averaged over the year), with seasonal peaks and troughs. Scheduled rota weekend work as part of a wider team to cover matches and events (when this happens equivalent weekdays given off in lieu).
